My life is f*cking boring, yet I can still feel every second, millisecond and microsecond passing me by. One second I’m sat at Fr Boyle Montessori being caned for having mucus all over my face or failing ‘1+1’, the other second I’m trying to stomach my bosses’ mood-swings and shouting while still keeping a smile for the client beside me, who's waiting for a solution to the problem she’s just been explaining, that i already forgot. I am exhausted and fed-up yet I still feel like I have to keep up with this something beyond me. I don’t know what to call it. At times I wonder; well, when do I ever not wonder. Like parts of a conveyor belt, we’re always in constant motion, to and fro. Mincing and wincing. Always at the starting point of something, stuttering and in-a-mess once in a while. Wandering through unhinged. Strutting through, in elegance and bravery. At least I try to look like it. Growing wiser by the day amidst lots a obstacles. Learning from our errs and those of others. Breaking a couple of hearts, and our hearts also being broken occasionally. Learning to love at 25 (for some of us), falling out of love. Outgrowing our childishness, boring the next generation and watching the same cycle start all over again. Growing old. Getting old. Year in year out. Through the ages. Becoming what we want. Letting go of what we may never get or achieve (for the sake of our sanity, in the short-term). Reminding ourselves to breathe, to live, to be, and to become. What is constant then? What is steady? In the ever changing fast-paced world we’re living in, we crave for that single thing that stirs in us the necessary hope and morale to live through the common and alien horrors. To that we’ll anchor our dreams and aspirations in life. Finding this is the real test of life. Coz what will truly stand the test of time? For love will fade and die. For friends will become foes or strangers if you’re lucky enough. For family become acquaintances. The next generation will grow and abandon us. Just like the generation before us and one before our parents’. We’re all slaves to this rhythm of time. We’re elements. Parts of a complex system. Despite being matter, do we even matter? Does it matter that we matter? We all have one common fate though, owing to the fact that we’re born, we all must then die. At eight, eighteen, eighty? Nonetheless, the thought of death still scares the living crap out of every living soul. More so myself. The allure of darkness, and the illusion of rest isn’t as comforting. Despite how broken and distasteful the lives we lead could be, we hold on to the world of the living. Are we truly happy? (not the happy of getting your favorite ice cream flavor at a discount this Valentine’s season. I mean truly happy). I achieve something one minute, and I’m above the clouds having the day of my life, quite literally with double-shots. Then, it all seems ordinary. I yearn for more. I yearn for another trip in the clouds. Higher, higher, and more high. When is it all enough? Is it ever enough? Is adequate enough? Is better enough? What is better anyway? As seconds turn into minutes, minutes into hours, hours into days, days into weeks, then months, years; and new turns of old. As the harvest and reaping steals us away one at a time. On our daily task to conquer. As we fight to survive. As we live. As we battle our own ever-evolving demons. As we celebrate our victories. As we soldier on, in search for new thrills and adventure to quench our ever overflowing thirst. Remember this, remember that one day, the light will beckon and you’ll have to walk towards it on your own. As you. Remember that history will remember you. Remember that it’s way easier when it’s all simple. Keep it simple. Do not burn it. Driving or flying or walking, somehow we always get there. Sleeping in a castle or on the streets or in cave, the light is one. Not to condone laziness, not to devalue wealth, not to equalize poverty to richness. I want better too. But to encourage humanity. To encourage you to remember what truly matters. Living a quality life. Leaving a good legacy for history. Being a friend, a neighbor. Remember family. Do not dare burn bridges. Once you’ve made it to the other side, it feels lonely and cold. It is lonely and cold. Guide another across. As the year pushes on, as you smile and laugh, as you dance and gulp down a couple of shots, be kind. Have kind joy. Dance kindly. I wish all of us a Happy Valentine’s Day and prosperous 2019. Let’s all be kind to one another.
