An Open Letter to My Lil' Sissy

Dear Faith, I look up to you in so many ways, and you inspire me more than you could ever imagine. I know, I was once the annoying, lazy sister who got everything she wanted by just commanding you around from the comfort of my bed, and you were the mean little sister who always picked on me (if we’re being honest, you still do, on a very light note), but now that we are older and somewhat more mature, I realize how lucky I am to have a little sister. I like to think of you as my built-in best friend. You have no choice but to love me, no matter how hard it is sometimes. You are always looking out for me, not just after I'd had lots to drink at Club Rumours or Gravity, whether it was my first day at boarding school at Fr Boyle or my first preparation for an interview..I'm sure you vividly recall these events as I do. Although we often argue, I know at the end of the day there is no one who loves and cares about me as much as you do, and for that I am forever grateful (this works both ways, so you know) Thank you for making all of the mistakes you did before I had a chance to, and for being open enough to let me learn from them. We all make mistakes, but learning from your  sister, and having her there to comfort you when bad things happen, makes it much more bearable and 'normal'. Thank you for always accepting me. Okay, I know we make fun of each other 24/7, but we do it out of love (most of the time I think). Who else would still love me after seeing me in my lower primary school stage and knowing all my embarrassing stories? Like the time we took photos barefoot with mucus allover our faces, damn!! ( On that note, we should ensure those photos never see the light of day or they're gonna ruin us. Literally!! ..now i'm laughing so hard). Thanks for helping me make fun of our parents and siblings and always making family events much more entertaining with stories and narrations that never seem to end. When we're together, we have so much fun and some of my best memories are spent with you and worst arguments too. Although you and I are completely different, and always have been, we share so much in common and we can always relate to each other. You have helped me tremendously, especially in the past few years, and I hope I have and can do the same for you especially on you completion of the 8:4:4 system. Thank you for being the one person I can always count on for anything (other than money, cos we both know you spend waaaaayyy tooo muuchhh..no pun intended). You believe in me, and I know I'll always have a supporter in you. If I have a crazy dream that seems too far out of reach, I can count on you to inspire me and tell me that I can do anything I want. You don’t realize the impact you’ve left on me, and I don’t tell you enough how thankful I am for you. When I was younger I envied you since you seemed to always be having fun, excluding the parts where you landed in trouble daily though, and when I look back, I realize how annoying you must’ve been . On this next phase of life, i.e. job hunting, you will always receive career advice; some bad and some good. What you do with the advice you receive is up to you, but in some instances, it can prove to be invaluable. Always try to decipher this coz anyone can mislead you, including me. Try as much as possible not to compare yourself with the colleagues you're gonna graduate with, coz trust me, you're gonna be depressed!! We all have different timelines, so try to keep up with them but not necessarily be exactly like them (I wish someone had told me this on my graduation). Further on, these are a few points i would like to share from my experience; 1. Work Hard, Play Harder - Work hard to succeed. The play part is money-related hence comes after securing a good job or business if you're thinking of being an entrepreneur. 2. Aspire to do something without fear -Don't fear to fail that you fail to attempt new stuff. Go to as many interviews as humanly possible. Trust me, they somehow make you bold in facing challenges that will come later and growing as an individual. 3. Don't settle for mediocrity, at least not in the long run . Where do you wanna be in 15 years? (In the short run you can get away with this, coz we're broke and desperate to earn money already. But don't forget where you wanna be while at it) 4. Treat everyone the way you'd like to be treated . As we've been told, everyone is fighting a war we know nothing of, so strive to always be humble and kind. 5. Choose your inner circle vigilantly. Surround yourself with smarter people that will challenge your ideas, advise you on work opportunities, etc. 6. Be Patient . Remember, life is gonna get worse from here before it gets better, so wait. 7. CV is now your best possession . Work on it. 8. God is always the answ er. Ask him for anything..and I mean anything.. Yours Sincerely, Chirie
